ABOUT
Ellie is a flautist, teacher and community musician originally from Manchester. In 2022, she graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama with a Distinction in MMus Orchestral Performance. During her time at the college, Ellie was taught by Jonathan Burgess, John Hall and Lindsey Ellis. She was also on placement schemes with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Welsh National Opera, performing with them and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama Symphony Orchestra in St David’s Hall and the Dora Stoutzker Hall.
Her studies were generously supported by a Universal Music UK Sound Foundation Scholarship and a Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama Scholarship, as well as The Kathleen Trust, Split Infinitive Trust, Carlton House Charitable Trust, The South Square Trust and The Black Heart Foundation.
Prior to her postgraduate degree, Ellie graduated from Durham University with a First-Class Honours degree in Music. During this time, she studied with Eilidh Gillespie and taught at the Sage Gateshead as a Flute Tutor on their Step-Up Strings Programme, one of the Young Musicians' Programmes, alongside members of the Royal Northern Sinfonia.
After graduating from her undergraduate degree, Ellie worked at Wells Cathedral School as a Graduate Music Assistant and the schools’ Orchestra Manager and was taught by Sarah Newbold.
Ellie’s passions are education work and community music. She is a committed, diligent and flexible teacher whose approach builds strong technical foundations from the very beginning while encouraging imaginative exploration. She currently teaches at Reigate Grammar School and the Wandsworth Music Academy.
Ellie regularly works with the Aulus Duo to present Project Bottled in primary schools. The duo also work with organisations including Live Music Now and Wye Valley Music to deliver interactive concerts and workshops for children with ALN and those living with dementia. Ellie has worked with the Benedetti Foundation to present primary workshops as part of their residencies and with Bristol Beacon in their BLOOM project for mums and babies and Our Music Club for those living with dementia.
In 2023, Ellie acted as the Project Coordinator for Turtle Opera Bristol in partnership with Turtle Key Arts and Bristol Beacon. She continued to work with Turtle Key Arts to deliver workshops as part of the JOY-4-Schools programme with SEND schools. Ellie now works with Music Making SENse to deliver a programme of musical learning for students with complex medical needs, PMLD SLD and ASD.
Since 2023, she has been a board member and trustee for Sound Sense.
